STUDIO POLICY

Welcome to the The Piano Studio by Gian Carlo! We are excited to have you join us on your musical journey. To ensure a positive and enriching experience for all students, we have established the following studio policy:

Lessons

Lessons are 30 minutes long, once per week. Please arrive at least five minutes prior to your designated lesson time so we may begin on time. Lessons consist of technique, sight-reading, repertoire and theory. Students must attend weekly lessons.

Please understand that the tuition you pay reserves an exclusive weekly time in my schedule for your child.

Lessons are offered in my residence at 15 Carova Beach Pl. Sacramento, CA 95835 every Mondays, Tuesdays at 3:30-8:00PM and Wednesdays at 4:00PM-8:00PM. Saturdays are reserved for Makeup Lessons.

Practice

Daily practice for at least five days of the week is expected. Length of practice will vary based on the student’s level of advancement. It is the parent’s responsibility to schedule and enforce daily practice. The weekly assignments should be viewed as “homework.” Completion of homework and thorough preparation of assignments for each lesson is expected.

The discipline of daily practice leads to progress which fuels motivation to continue to practice and progress. Parents are expected to be actively involved in practicing with beginners and young children until they reach an age where they can be more self-directed in their practicing.

Absences and Cancellations

Please be aware that your lesson time is reserved for you. I work very hard each year to create a schedule based on student requests and I plan to work and get paid for those hours. I expect that you will honor this time with the same attention you give to other activities. Please try to provide 24-hour advance notification of an absence.

If ample notice is given and the cancellation is for a legitimate reason, I will work hard to find a mutually agreeable make-up lesson time. Students who cancel at the last minute or for frivolous reasons are not eligible for a make-up lesson.

Parking

Please do not block driveways. You can use my driveway to park your car during lessons. Two cars should fit my driveway.

Parent Participation

Parents must sit and listen during lessons. Your support and encouragement play a big role to the success and reaching the goals of your student.

“Consistent practice is the crucial component for success. The responsibility for this is shared by the parents, teacher, and especially the student. Strong work habits, self-motivation and the love and understanding of music are all values that will be developed.”

Termination of Lessons

Students who are not making sufficient progress will be given a one-month warning before termination. It is my general philosophy that students should continue lessons even through normal learning plateau periods. We all suffer from occasional periods of low motivation, and I believe it is the teachers’ and parents’ obligation to help shepherd students through these periods.

However, should these “plateaus” become the norm, I will encourage these students to find another teacher or perhaps even another interest. Students intending to terminate lessons are required to provide at least one month’s notice.
